Is Early Explorers Preschool year round?

Yes, Early Explorers preschool is a year-round program. We follow the Santa Barbara Unified School District Calendar and are closed for the major holidays, break weeks, the week following the last day of the school year, and the week following the last day of summer. View preschool calendar here.

Does my child have to be fully potty-trained to attend Early Explorers Preschool?

Yes, all children are required to be potty-trained in order to attend. We do not have diapering facilities available.

Do we need to have a Santa Barbara Zoo membership for my child to attend Early Explorers Preschool?

Yes, at least one parent or custodial guardian needs to have a current Zoo membership (Flock level or above) in their name.

Is there still class when it rains?

Early Explorers Preschool is an all-weather outdoor preschool and remains open rain or shine. Rainy days will be held inside the class yurts. Children should come prepared with appropriate rain gear including boots and coats to enjoy a Zoo walk in the rain!

Is the Santa Barbara Zoo's Early Explorers Preschool a licensed preschool?

Yes, Early Explorers Preschool is the first completely outdoor preschool to obtain a license through the California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division.
